Oh, I agree. Besides, you can only use linear factors, which means it’s useless for finding slant asymptotes in all but a few cases.

But to my knowledge, no one uses synthetic division for quadratics. So there’s no overemphasizing it. It’s simply not even used for degree = 2. The kids I’m working with are unlikely to get to precalc or even genuine second year algebra. As a rule, half my class won’t even work with degree > 2. It’s helpful for them to just have an easier way to evaluate than substitution.
